Eye-catching silver Long Man of Wilmington earrings (pair). Suitable for pierced ears only.
The Long Man of Wilmington measuring 235ft high is a mysterious hill figure found on the South Downs. There is a distance of more than 30 metres between the staffs he holds and the Western staff is approx 72 metres long.
His origins are unknown, though he is now cared for by the Sussex
Archaeological Society and East Sussex County Council. The chalk line Which was only visable in low sunlight was replaced with yellow bricks around 1874 and later in 1969 replaced with concrete blocks.
Is the Long Man a monk who founded the nearby priory back in the 15th Century? Is he Roman? Could he be pre-historic? Many theories abound, maybe we will never know....
